During February, March, and April, there has been more ‘de-construction’ happening than ‘construction’ as the former West building has been reduced to just its framework.
This portion of our remodeling project will provide new spaces for the following career-technical programs: biotechnology, cosmetology, culinary arts, early childhood education, health occupations, hospitality services, medical lab assisting, pre-nursing, and Youth Connections. In addition, this part of the building will be utilized for the following operational areas: administrative and support staff office areas, cashier, health clinic, safety office, student services, two new conference rooms, with seating for 152 and 194, respectively, and the visitor/student drop-off entrance.
While this work is ongoing, the construction team is gearing up for an intense summer schedule. With students and most staff off campus, we have ten weeks to do all the messy and noisy items we have tried to mitigate during the school year. Within this ten-week period, the contractor will not only be focusing on the remodeling of the former West Building; they will be completing the MAC vestibule flooring and finishes, finishing the stair and hallway finishes in the B, D, G, and H hallways, while also working through punch-list items in the currently occupied building. While all this is happening around us, our maintenance staff will be performing general repairs, annual maintenance, and anything else that is brought to our attention.
As we approach 2024, it is exciting to start to see what the old building will become as it is fully remodeled!
