Parent Letter on COVID-19 (Coronavirus) Updated 3-13-2020

03/12/2020

Dear MVCTC Parents and Guardians,

MVCTC is adhering to Governor DeWine’s declaration that all Ohio schools will close for three weeks as a state-wide calamity event and acting in accordance with Federal and State law. Additionally, the United States Department of Education provided guidance regarding the implementation of Federal education regulations. The guidance provided related to IDEA (Individuals with Disabilities Education Act), Section 504, and FAPE (Free and Appropriate Public Education) requirements present insurmountable barriers to providing equitable online instruction to our students’ diverse learning requirements in our unique career-technical setting.

Further, given the above statement, the district will not be offering online instruction during the closure for any MVCTC programs, including Youth Connections and Project SEARCH. With that said, MVCTC staff members will be available to students during the closure through district email.

Students enrolled in programs that require a minimum number of hours to meet a Federal or State requirement, such as Aviation Maintenance, Cosmetology, etc., will be updated on any changes to these requirements or deadlines as the district is informed by the governing entity. MVCTC does not have any influence in determining the hour minimums or other established requirements set by these entities.

Please note that ALL school-related activities, including Prom, have been cancelled through Sunday, April 5, 2020. Events scheduled to occur after this date are pending until further guidance from Governor DeWine is provided.

To prepare for implementing the Governor’s declaration, NO STUDENTS will report on Monday, March 16. MVCTC staff will be present on the MVCTC’s Englewood and Youth Connections campuses on Monday, March 16 from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. if students or parents would like to retrieve personal items. Furthermore, MVCTC’s Englewood and Youth Connections campuses will be closed to the public from Tuesday, March 17 through Sunday, April 5.

The district will continue to monitor the Governor’s state-wide declarations and communicate with all of the district’s stakeholders.

As a parent, if you have questions about the district’s operations during the closure, please send an email to: QUESTIONS@MVCTC.com.

Once again, thank you for your patience and flexibility as we are all dealing with the unique situations related to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nick Weldy
MVCTC Superintendent
