Job Summary

This position develops experience in tight tolerance machining and is responsible for operating machine tools to produce precision tolerance using various materials. The Detail Machinist Apprentice produces small batches or large quantities of parts and ensures products meet precise specifications.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Operate machinery such as Prototrak 2 axis milling machines, band saw, and grinder to produce parts.
Prepare raw material for Detail Machinist.
Read and understand part drawings to determine part features, dimensions, and related tolerance specifications.
Machine and or modify parts with verbal instructions, sketches, and marked up drawings.
Program tool paths, feeds and speeds into Prototrak milling machines using graphical programming.
Set up machines by selecting appropriate tooling and work holding.
Inspect internal and external machined parts to verify dimensional accuracy using standard inspection tools such as digital calipers, dial indicators, and micrometers.
Perform preventative maintenance to machinery including but not limited to cleaning and lubrication.
Maintain shop cleanliness.
Organize and maintain organization of cutting tools: drills, taps, end mills, etc.
Organize and maintain organization of raw material stock.
Assist in the building of production equipment.
Managerial Responsibility:
No direct reports
Travel/Shift Requirements
No travel required.
Physical Demands:
Must have ability to stand and use hands using repetitive motions.
Ability to lift raw materials that can weigh up to 100 lbs.
Tools
Must supply own tools.

Education and Experience Required:
Highschool diploma required.
Plan to attend or is currently attending a trade school or equivalent.
Training or experience with Bridgeport style machines and other grinding, cutting, or manufacturing equipment preferred.
