MVCTC SkillsUSA Chapter 1 November Meeting

11/08/2016

Englewood, Ohio - The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) SkillsUSA Chapter I held the second meeting of the year on November 7, 2016.

The meeting started with the sharing information from the 2016 SkillsUSA Fall Conference.

Our meeting topic this month was “It’s not just weed”. It included a guest speaker Jason Groves. Mr. Groves talked about drug and alcohol abuse, and what it can do to our bodies and our families. He talked about the different drugs and that they are not what they say they are, the drugs could be coated in different things.

Mrs. Hartman asked, “raise your hand if you know someone on drugs or drugs has had an effect on you somehow”. Almost everyone raised their hand. I asked four students who attended the SkillsUSA Chapter 1 meeting to write what they thought about it. Here is what a few students said, “I really enjoyed the presentation today (11-07-16). To hear someone clearly explaining the negative impact of drugs and other types of substance abuse and real life impact , not just myths”, “I wish everyone could have heard the speaker today”, “Jason is the type of person that can help you through your addictions, and get you back on path, and in the right direction”, and “He explained how important it was to think about weed as a gateway drug, and to not have the mentality of its ‘Just Weed’.”
