MVCTC FFA Welcomes Greenhand Degree Recipients

Englewood, Ohio - The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) FFA Chapter November meeting was on Wednesday, November 8, 2017. The meeting included updates from the National FFA Convention, information on the 37th FFA Charity Auction, recognizing students that received their National FFA Greenhand Degree, and a presentation by guest speaker, Mr. Bill Bowers.
The 2017 FFA Charity Auction is scheduled for December 8, 2017, starting at 11:30 a.m. in the Agriculture and Livestock Production Lab in the East Building. This will mark the 37th Charity Auction with over $100,000 raised for the Dayton Area Ronald McDonald House.
In order to receive a the FFA Greenhand Degree, members must meet the following requirements:
- Enroll in an agricultural education program and have satisfactory plans for a Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE).
- Learn and explain the FFA Creed, FFA Mission and Motto, and FFA salute.
- Describe and explain the meaning of the FFA emblem and FFA colors.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the FFA Code of Ethics and the proper use of the FFA jacket.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the history of the organization, the chapter constitution and bylaws and the chapter Program of Activities.
- Own or have access to the Official FFA Manual and the Official FFA Student Handbook.
- Submit a written application for the Greenhand FFA Degree.

Meeting guest speaker, Bill Bowers, graduated in 1995 from National Trail as the chapter’s FFA President. He then went on to Wilmington to graduate with a Bachelor Degree in Agriculture with a focus in Animal Science. He continued his education at Miami University where he received a MBA in Finance. He has worked for Akey’s Feed in Nutrition Research, as a Vice President in Agri Business for Farm Credit, and has taught Ag Econ and Ag Finance at Ivy Tech. Bowers is currently a District Sales Manager for Monsanto over-seeing the DeKalb and Asgrow brands in Southwest Ohio. He discussed how to grow as an employee, to reach out and make an effort, to take action to benefit your workplace and yourself, and that you always need a vision for what you want to do in life.
For over 40-years, MVCTC has been providing career technical education for 27 partner school districts encompassing five counties in Southwest Ohio. MVCTC is dedicated to providing in-demand workforce training for youth, adults, and organizations in the Miami Valley.
