2018-2019 MVCTC FFA Officer Retreat

08/13/2018

On August 7th and 8th, the MVTVC FFA Chapter held an officer retreat at Hueston Woods in Oxford, Ohio. The purpose of the retreat was to get to know one another and learn the duties of each office.

 2018-2019 MVCTC FFA Officers include:

  • Trinity Konwiczka (Mississinawa Valley) President from Natural Resources
  • Carley Asher (Preble-Shawnee) Vice-President from Veterinary Science
  • Lexi Stiner (National Trail) Secretary from Ag and Livestock Production
  • Anna Grant (Valley View) Treasurer from Ag and Livestock Production
  • Alexia Hess (Arcanum-Butler) Reporter from Ag and Livestock Production
  • Myckala Geisler (Miamisburg) Sentinel from Veterinary Science
  • Kasey Lawson (Wayne) Student Advisor from Veterinary Science

After the officers checked into Hueston Woods, they split into groups and went to the grocery store to learn how to shop on a budget. They were responsible for planning two healthy meals for the entire group. After arriving back at the cabins, the officers took a pontoon ride on Acton Lake. While on the boat, they did two activities; Piece of the Puzzle, and an acrostic poem to learn more about one another. Next, the advisors had the officers meet outside their cabins for a few leadership activities; Think on Your Feet – an abrupt two-minute speech, and went over the FFA “Survival Kit”. They also reviewed proper official dress with the advisors. Once the officers were finished, they split into two groups to cook supper – steak, baked potatoes, and corn on the cob. After dinner, everyone went to the lodge to learn their duties and plan out FFA activities for the year. They learned to communicate and collaborate as a team in order to plan ahead.

The next morning they took a 3-mile “jiggy-jog” at 7 am. When everyone finished, the officers split back into two groups to cook breakfast – biscuits, eggs, fried potatoes, sausage, bacon, and fresh fruit. Next, everyone met back in the cabin to do a team building activity; Making PB&J. This activity taught the importance of communication between the officers. Once they finished, the group cleaned and packed up to get ready for departure. Lastly, the officers and advisors went to the lodge one last time to discuss what they will bring to the team. They did a few more activities to learn more about each other, and they made plans final for upcoming events. The trip taught all of the officers' many leadership skills and how to better work as a team.

FFA makes a positive difference in the lives of students by developing their potential for premier leadership, personal growth and career success through agriculture education.
