Englewood, Ohio – The week of November 12, 2018, at Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) included many observations of Veterans Day.

The recognition started with the 2nd Annual MVCTC Veterans Day Breakfast on Saturday, November 10.  Area Veterans and their families were invited to enjoy a free pancake breakfast as a way of saying thank you for serving our country.  This event was sponsored by MVCTC staff with the assistance of Northmont Food Service.

On Monday, November 12, area veterans and their spouses were welcomed to MVCTC Cosmetology and Culinary Arts for free haircuts and free desserts. The day also included recognition of MVCTC staff members that served in the United States Military.

On Wednesday, November 13, three MVCTC students were recognized by Navy Veteran, Mr. John Mays, for their Voice of Democracy speeches. First place went to Kylie Kendrick (Pre-Nursing student from Tipp City), second place Darius Benton (Dental Assisting student from Eaton), and third place went to Ahliya Brown (Business Ownership student from Northmont). Each student received a cash prize, first place $150, second place $100, and third place $50.

The week ended with an extraordinary presentation for senior students from Holocaust survivor, Mr. Ira Segalewitz.  Mr. Segalewitz is also a United States veteran of the Korean Conflict. He asked students to remember these three things at the end of his very moving presentation, “1) Bad things happen in life, you move on 2) Don’t be a bystander, if you see something wrong, report it 3) Get a good education, continue your education and always do your best.”
