MVCTC Students Competed in the Max and Lydia May Holocaust Writing and Art Contest

Dayton, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) students competed in the Max and Lydia May Holocaust Writing and Art Contest. The contest is a yearly event hosted by the Dayton Holocaust Education Committee. We are pleased and excited to share that six MVCTC students have been selected as winners and honorable mentions

 

Division II, Prose (MVCTC students swept the entire category!)

  • Lauren Kilgore (Vandalia-Butler), First Place
  • Avery Bocock (West Carrollton), Second Place
  • Keara Knepshield (Franklin Monroe), Third Place
  • D’Asia Jones (Trotwood), Honorable Mention

 

Division II, Poetry

  • Cameron Gamble (West Carrollton), Second Place (Ms. Gamble was asked to recite her poem about a local Dayton area Holocaust survivor.)

 

Division II, Art

  • Callie Berry (Miamisburg), Second Place

 

These students were invited to attend the community-wide Holocaust Remembrance Day (Yom HaShoah) held on Sunday, April 28, 2019, at Beth Abraham Congregation where the winning entries were displayed before the memorial service. Over the summer, the student art and writing entries will be on display at the Dayton Art Institute. A certificate and cash prizes were awarded. Beth Manor, MVCTC Academic Supervisor share, “Thank you to Mrs. Hughes and Mrs. Forbes (MVCTC English teachers) for integrating this meaningful project into their respective curriculums. This is a wonderful honor for them and their students and our district as a whole.”
