AMERICA’S HIGHLY SKILLED WORKFORCE MEETS IN LOUISVILLE
Louisville, KY -- SkillsUSA members from all over the country gathered in Louisville, KY on June 24-28 for the 55th annual National Leadership and Skills Conference, the world’s largest showcase of skilled trades. Quality career and technical education was the centerpiece of the conference. More than 19,000 students, teachers, education leaders, and representatives from 600 national corporations, trade associations, businesses and labor unions participated. The highlight was the annual SkillsUSA Championships on June 26-27 with 103 hands-on skill and leadership competitions.
The SkillsUSA Championships is the nation’s largest workforce development event for middle-school, high-school and college/postsecondary students enrolled in public career and technical education programs. It is considered the largest skill competition in the world and the single largest day of industry volunteerism in America. SkillsUSA represents 130 different occupational areas and adds contests to the SkillsUSA Championships each year to meet the demands of new or expanding careers. Begun in 1967, the SkillsUSA Championships features more than 6,400 competitors in 103 hands-on skill and leadership contests. Each contestant is a state gold medalist.
