MVCTC SkillsUSA Chapter 2 Holds First Meeting of School Year

Englewood, Ohio – The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) SkillsUSA Chapter 2 kicked off the 2021-2022 school year at its first meeting on September 14, 2021. Meeting topics included introductions of the SkillsUSA officers and advisors, followed by the introduction of the SkillsUSA Program to the juniors and seniors in the following labs: Auto Collision, Architecture Drafting, Auto Services, Auto Technology, Digital Design, Graphic Art (A), Graphic Art (B), and Photography. 

The SkillsUSA Chapter 2 2021-2022 Officers are:

  • President - Navjot Singh, Graphic Commercial Arts/ Huber Heights
  • Vice President - Ashtyn Barga, Digital Design/Milton-Union 
  • Secretary - Aubrey Smith, Graphic Commercial Arts/Eaton 
  • Treasurer - Victoria Wright, Photography/Preble Shawnee 
  • Reporter - Kyla Zackery, Digital Design/ Vandalia-Butler
  • Historian - Zoie Rench, Photography/ Milton-Union

Lead Advisor of SkillsUSA Chapter 2, Troy Baker, informed SkillsUSA members what the organization is about and the opportunities available to students. The SkillsUSA Officers then introduced themselves in the order listed above. Advisor Troy Baker then discussed the previous years of SkillsUSA, followed by a short clip of the previous State Officers officiating the Emblem Ceremony. Mr. Baker also talks about how members can become involved in SkillsUSA by competing in competitions and becoming a SkillsUSA officers.

Co-Advisor of SkillsUSA Chapter 2, Donita Massing, further described the benefits of SkillsUSA with a few more short clips about the program and possible competitions that students can participate in while attending MVCTC. Mrs. Massing then engaged with the crowd in a quick trivia competition about SkillsUSA and the benefits of joining. 

Lead Advisor Mr. Baker went on to promote the idea of SkillsUSA and how an email will be sent to all students, asking students to run for a Regional Officer position. After watching and listening to a short SkillsUSA Theme Song video, “United as One,” the meeting concluded. The crowd applauded the new chapter, Officers and Advisors of SkillsUSA Chapter 2. 

“The first SkillsUSA meeting of Chapter 2 2021-2022 was a quiet yet memorable one, considering the circumstances of last year and that all students are learning about SkillsUSA this year, not just the juniors. We are very proud to be your 2021-2022 Chapter 2 SkillsUSA Officers, and we will move forward making Miami Valley Career Technology Center students and staff proud,” Kyla Zackery, SkillsUSA Chapter 2 Reporter.

SkillsUSA is the largest technical organization currently at MVCTC, hosting four chapters. SkillsUSA Framework surrounds technical skills grounded in academics as well as personal skills and workplace skills. There have been a total of 13,600,000 members since 1965, and it continues to grow.
