Exciting Summer Camps Ignite Passion for Teaching and STEM at MVCTC

07/16/2024

Englewood, Ohio – The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) wrapped up two dynamic summer camps aimed at engaging teachers and students in hands-on learning experiences.

Teacher Camp 2024: Empowering Educators

From July 8 to July 12, MVCTC hosted Teacher Camp 2024, welcoming four enthusiastic educators from partner districts. These teachers immersed themselves in the diverse and cutting-edge career tech labs available on campus. Through interactive sessions with experienced instructors and helpful student assistants, the participants delved into various programs offered at MVCTC.

The camp provided a comprehensive overview of the recruitment and application process, a guided tour of the campus, and an introduction to MVCTC's academic offerings, including the Career Connections and Youth Connections initiatives. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their understanding of MVCTC's programs but also equipped them with valuable insights to share with their students.

STEM Camp 2024: Inspiring the Next Generation of Innovators

From June 10 to June 14, MVCTC opened its doors to thirty eager middle school students for STEM Camp 2024. The camp, structured to spark interest in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, featured two engaging daily sessions.

The morning sessions introduced students to the fields of Sports Medicine and Biotechnology/Medical Laboratory. In the afternoons, they explored the exciting realms of Drones/GIS and Pre-Nursing. Led by MVCTC instructors Matt Money, Frank Wright, Jessica Knisley, Josh Rarick, Corrie Lievsay, Mark Fultz, Amy Sugden, and Ellen Bissey, the camp provided a rich learning environment.

Additionally, five current MVCTC students played a crucial role in guiding and mentoring the campers: Eleanor Tousignaut (Preble Shawnee), Kaitlyn Muterspaw (Huber Heights), Bethany Thompson (Northmont), James McElroy (Twin Valley South), and Rilee Norris (Greenville). Their involvement not only demonstrated leadership but also offered a glimpse into the supportive community at MVCTC.

A Summer of Growth and Learning

Both Teacher Camp and STEM Camp exemplify MVCTC's commitment to providing premier educational experiences and fostering a passion for learning among educators and students alike. These camps not only enhance participants' knowledge and skills but also contribute to the broader goal of preparing the Miami Valley's youth for the 21st-century workforce.
