A local teen is soaring to new heights after winning a national trade and technical skilled workforce competition before even starting her senior year of high school.

Kathryn Wilcox, 15, is on her way to making her dreams a reality. Despite being in the Miami Valley Career Technology Center’s aviation program for just one year, she has already shown her skills to be among the best in the country.

“I really like it,” said Wilcox. “This is going to be my job someday.”

Staff, friends and family couldn’t be prouder of Wilcox’s hard work.

“You get to see something like this once in your career,” said aviation maintenance instructor Jarrett Walters. “A student that works this hard to be the best in the nation.”

Wilcox and the other Aviation Maintenance students will graduate MVCTC with a high school diploma, an A&P license and the potential for an Associate’s Degree from Sinclair.
