MVCTC Aspire Program Partners with Mike’s Indoor Bike Park to Equip At-Risk Youth with Real-World Customer Service Skills

The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Aspire Program recently launched an exciting partnership with Mike’s Indoor Bike Park to provide at-risk young adults with hands-on customer service training. Located at 1300 E. First St. in Dayton, Mike’s Indoor Bike Park offers a multi-level indoor biking experience and a full-service shop for bike repairs and maintenance.

Aspire students engaged in the nationally recognized RISE Up customer service curriculum, gaining valuable real-world experience in the bike shop. Under the mentorship of instructor Daniel McClain, students learned the essentials of customer service while contributing to the shop's day-to-day operations. The collaboration was made possible through the "Yes 4 Youth" initiative and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) Office, which enabled participants to earn a paid internship during the program.

Community partnerships like this are vital to the MVCTC Aspire Program, which offers students not only employment training but also supports the local economy by preparing tomorrow's workforce. In addition to customer service training, the Aspire Program is committed to providing educational opportunities that meet the community's diverse needs.

MVCTC’s Aspire Program is also partnering with Norwood Medical, located at 2122 Winners Circle in north Dayton, to offer select employees English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction. These short-term ESL classes are designed to enhance participants' English speaking, writing, and communication skills, providing targeted support for employees with strong technical skills who need to improve their language proficiency.
