MVCTC students Lincoln Bentley (Computer Networking & Cybersecurity / Miamisburg) and Jacob Strickland (Computer Networking & Cybersecurity / Vandalia-Butler) earned first place in the Red Team/Hacking Competition at the Go Cyber Collective: Capture the Flag (CTF) event. The pair competed against 118 teams, including collegiate teams from Sinclair College, Wright State University, and Cedarville University, demonstrating strong cybersecurity skills.
The competition, held at Tyler Technologies in Moraine, Ohio, brought together students and professionals for challenges in simulated IT environments. Bentley and Strickland worked through tasks such as reconnaissance, privilege escalation, and exploit implementation, successfully identifying vulnerabilities and solving complex problems.
“This accomplishment shows the level of talent our students bring to the program,” said Ronald Jacobs, MVCTC Networking and Cybersecurity instructor. “Lincoln and Jacob’s ability to address real-world cybersecurity challenges is impressive for high school students.”
Their ability to work collaboratively and develop effective strategies in the competition demonstrated the value of early exposure to hands-on cybersecurity education. Events like this provide valuable learning experiences and opportunities to connect with industry professionals.
MVCTC congratulates Lincoln Bentley and Jacob Strickland on their success in the competition and looks forward to seeing their continued growth in the field of cybersecurity.
