The Agriculture & Livestock Production Program at the Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) has had an eventful start to the year. This fall, students and staff celebrated the birth of a baby calf on campus, marking a memorable milestone. More recently, during Winter Break, instructor Nick Wright and his family dedicated their time to assist with the arrival of five baby piglets, adding to the program's hands-on learning experiences.
Students in the Agriculture & Livestock Production Program engage in a comprehensive two-year curriculum that combines classroom instruction with practical experience. They gain invaluable livestock care and management skills on the MVCTC Land Lab, learning to handle various responsibilities related to animal husbandry. Additionally, students manage a 50-acre grain farm, utilizing cutting-edge technology such as precision guidance systems and precision agriculture equipment to enhance their learning.
Beyond the classroom, students actively participate in the FFA, a national organization that promotes leadership, personal growth, and career success through agricultural education. The program also offers the opportunity to earn the Ohio Agribusiness Association Agribusiness and Production Systems Certification, providing students with a competitive edge in the industry.
Moreover, students can earn college credits while still in high school and participate in the Advanced Placement School-to-Work program, bridging the gap between academic learning and real-world agricultural careers.
The Agriculture & Livestock Production Program at MVCTC continues to provide students with a rewarding and dynamic educational experience, preparing them for successful futures in the agriculture industry. Learn more at www.mvctc.com/ar.
