Englewood, Ohio - The Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Business Ownership program teaches students many aspects of owning and managing a business. One of the many projects they complete during their two years at MVCTC is selling MVCTC shirts to students and staff. Shirts were sold in the Business Ownership classes and in the Student Activity Center during lunches.
Prior to the sale, students across campus were allowed to create designs to be chosen for this year's shirt. Business Ownership students then created sales flyers detailing the event and hung the best designed flyer across campus to advertise. They prepared a sales table to display samples of shirts and attract customers.
Students were scheduled on a rotation to help customers choose shirt sizes, fill out order forms, collect payment and issue receipts. Students filed order forms alphabetically for pick-up of shirts at a later date. Taylor Shackleford (Brookville) and Mitchell Bussard (Tri-County North) were responsible for adding up order forms and verifying that the cash and checks collected match the order total. The class had a perfect week, with no discrepancies. Business Ownership students sold $3,593 in shirts over four days. Of that amount, $2,559 were cash sales!
Mandy Watts, MVCTC Business Ownership Instructor shared, “Hands-on projects like the MVCTC shirt sales allow Business Ownership students to apply business skills they learned in class to real life situations. Students gain experience in customer service and sales with the shirt sales event and enjoy the hands-on aspect of the project.”
