MVCTC Diesel and Power Technology Students Compete in State FFA Contest

Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Diesel and Power Technology students competed in the FFA State Ag Diagnostics Career Development Event (CDE) at the University of Northwestern Ohio in Lima, Ohio on March 6, 2015. The team of Dakota Cox (Tri-County North) and Marvin Epperson (Preble Shawnee) placed 12th in the state.

The Ag Diagnostic CDE requires team members to diagnose, locate, and repair two malfunctions on five different machines. Techniques and safety were evaluated.  The equipment used in the contest included a John Deere 9650 combine, 280 Case tractor, 5085 John Deere tractor, 1845 Case skid loader, and a 2006 Volvo semi. 

According to the Ohio FFA website, “Agricultural Education CDE’s are educational activities that are organized and conducted by the Ohio Department of Education, Office of Career-Technical Education, Agricultural Education. They are designed to assess student competence in business and industry verified occupational skills, as detailed in the Agricultural and Environmental Content Standards. CDEs are a motivating force that stimulates occupational interests in and personal development of high school students enrolled in school-based agricultural education programs.”
