MVCTC Hospitality Services Students Succeed at Regional FCCLA Competitions

Englewood, Ohio – Miami Valley Career Technology Center (MVCTC) Hospitality Services students recently participated in regional Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) competitions students bringing home 11 medals.
MVCTC students winning awards at the regional competition include:
- Brittany Rinehart (Hospitality Services student from Vandalia) and Destiney Stapleton (Hospitality Services student from Miamisburg) earned a Silver Rating in the Creative Banquet Table Design Competition. In this competition participant will prepare a reception table and sample dining table according to a Banquet Event Order.
- LaSonya Talley (Hospitality Services student from Trotwood) earned a Silver Rating in the Dining Room Attendant Competition.
- David Benton (Hospitality Services student from New Lebanon) earned a Silver Rating in the Guestroom Attendant/Inspector Competition. In this competition participants will follow lodging industry standards to efficiently clean and inspect a guestroom. In this event, the participants will demonstrate triple sheeting and bed making procedures, techniques for vacuuming a guestroom, safe use of cleaning supplies, and lodging sanitation. The participants will also inspect a hotel guestroom.
- Quentin Shyne (Hospitality Services student from Northmont) and Tabatha Thompson (Hospitality Services student from Eaton) earned a Gold Rating in the Hotel Linen Operation Competition. In this competition participants will sort, fold, and stack bath and bed linens. They will complete an inventory of linens. Ohio Department of Education Career Field Standards
- Anthony Caballero (Hospitality Services student from Northridge), Tabitha Rogers (Hospitality Services student from Eaton), and Brandon Stringfield (Hospitality Services student from Vandalia) earned a Silver Rating in the Lodging Career Investigation Competition. In this competition teams comprised of 1-3 participants will develop a career investigation project in the Lodging and Travel Services pathway.
- Tegan Crouch (Hospitality Services student from West Carrollton) and Kristen Millsaps (Hospitality Services student from Huber Heights) earned a Silver Rating in the Meeting Event Set-up Competition. In this competition teams comprised of 2-3 participants will prepare a meeting room according to a BEO. Once completed and scored, the team will be presented with a scenario from the judges to redesign the set-up in a manner that best match the guest’s changing needs.
MVCTC is located in Clayton and serves 27 area high schools in five southwestern Ohio counties (Montgomery, Warren, Preble, Darke, and Miami). The career technical programs at MVCTC are designed to teach students skills relevant to their career goals, while maintaining challenging academic classes and building relationships with classmates, instructors, and business leaders to help them be successful. The opportunities available at MVCTC prepare students for the workforce and college and allow them to graduate with industry certifications and thousands of dollars toward their college education.
