Start Planning your Career Pathway in Middle School!
8th Grade Year

You may wonder how your grades in middle school can affect your future career path. Believe it or not, your grades count a lot. Grades are the only
way colleges, employers, and others in positions of authority can objectively measure your performance. There is NO downside to getting good grades.
- Develop good study habits.
- Identify career paths that interest you.
- Plan to complete your health and physical education graduation requirements your freshmen or sophomore year.
- Keep your grades and school attendance up. Both GPA and attendance will be reviewed when enrolling at MVCTC.
- Plan to attend one of the MVCTC Summer Camps for 8th graders.
9th Grade Year

Start researching MVCTC Career Programs in 9th grade. This gives you plenty of time to research which career path is best for you and to make
sure you have the academic classes completed to be accepted to MVCTC.
- Meet with your school counselor to discuss participation in pre-college programs like College Credit Plus, Tech Prep, etc.
- Explore your interests by completing a career assessment at www.OhioMeansJobs.com.
- Keep your grades and school attendance up. Both GPA and attendance will be reviewed when enrolling at MVCTC.
- Find a family member, community leader, or teacher to serve as a mentor.
- Research career pathways and college plans.
- Plan to attend one of the MVCTC Summer Camps for 9th graders.
10th Grade Year

This is when things get really exciting!
- Sophomore Career Day - Plan to visit MVCTC on your scheduled partner school visit day. You will have the chance to visit two career programs at MVCTC for a full school day. This is an opportunity to “try on” the career program to see if it is a good fit for you.
- Sophomore Open House - The Open House is a great chance to bring your parents/guardians back to see what has you so excited. Visit the school, tour the classes, and meet the instructors.
- Application time! Applications are accepted starting in December of your sophomore year.
- Continue to be dedicated to keeping your grades up and being in attendance at school.
- Attend a Sophomore Visitation Day.
- Plan to attend one of the MVCTC Summer Camps for 10th graders.
