The Arcanum MVCTC FFA held its annual banquet on Sunday, March 25th, 2018. The banquet celebrated the accomplishments that the FFA members accumulated over the past year.
To begin the ceremony, Cole Spitler, Sentinel, introduced and thanked all of the guests of the Arcanum MVCTC FFA. Included in the list of guests were teachers, staff members, board members, and administration from Arcanum and MVCTC. Members were recognized for their participation in various chapter activities and new levels of degree membership attained.
The first sets of awards were given to members who participated in Career Development Events (CDE) this past year.
The First CDE recognized was the Grain Merchandising Team which placed 15th in the State. Members of the team were Cole Spitler, Brenna Loxley, Samantha McAllister, Sidney McAllister, Jacob Osswald, Hannah Rammel and Alexandria Less.
The Ag Tech and Mechanical Systems Team consisted of Alex Weiss, Levi Walker, Ethan Garbig, Cole Beck, Jonah Weidner, Zach Smith and Austin Fourman. The top 4 members completed the hands-on portion and placed 5th in the State.
The first CDE of the new school years was Rural Soil Judging with the team consisting of Zach Smith, Cole Spitler, Jacob Osswald, Raymond Denniston, Luke Wilson Isaac Smith and Austin Stephens. The Rural team placed 6th in the district contest.
The Urban Soils Team included Isaiah Baker, Mitchel Wogoman, Wade Meeks, Ethan Garbig, Austin Fourman, Samantha McAllister, and Laney Fourman. The Urban Team placed 6th at the District Contest.
The Job Interview Contestants were Braden Garbig, Sidney McAllister, Alexandria Less, and Ashlynn Farmer. All 4 Job Interview contestants moved on to the District Contest where Ashlynn placed 2nd.
The public speakers for Arcanum were Emily Wenning and Austin Stephens in Creed and Samantha McAllister in Advanced Prepared. Both Samantha and Emily moved on to the District Contest.
The Farm Business Management Team Members were Alex Weiss, Isaiah Baker, Jacob Osswald, Samantha McAllister, Madison Goubeaux, Hannah Rammel, Zach Smith, Kaleb Shilt, Dylan Lumpkin, Ashlynn Farmer, Alex Less, Hannah Smith, Tyler Rardin, Jonah Weidner, Tiffany Abbott, Cole Spitler and Marcus Plessinger. The Farm Business Management Team placed 4th in the state and Alex was 7th overall as an individual.
The Ag Mechanics Skills Team placed 5th in the district contest and the team members were Ethan Garbig, Levi Walker, and Cole Beck.
The final CDE’s recognized were the Spring Judging Teams: General Livestock Judging – Austin Fourman, Samantha McAllister, Sidney McAllister, Cael Gostomsky, Emily Wenning, Jacob Osswald, Eleanor Pease, Zach Smith, Anna Loxley, Isaac Smith, Austin Stephens, Vance Wetzel, Alex Weiss, and Laney Fourman. The General Livestock team placed 20th in the state and Sidney placed 21st overall as an individual. Junior High General Livestock Judging – Landon Haney, Ellie Fout, Alexis Wilcox, Luke Brinksneader and Jake Goubeaux. The Junior High Team placed 8th in the State and Luke placed 2nd overall as an individual. Dairy Judging Team – Samantha McAllister, Alex Weiss, Sidney McAllister, Maggie Weiss, and Anna Loxley.
The Arcanum MVCTC handed out Appreciation Awards to people that have made great contributions to the Chapter this year. The first appreciation award was given to the Superior Implement and Supply Company which is owned and operated by Ben, Gail and Josh Overholser. SISCO was a great supporter of the program and sponsored the banquet meal. The second appreciation award was given to Dusty Walker. Mr. Walker was a coach for the Ag Tech and Mechanical Systems Team and the Ag Mechanics Skills Team.
Special Awards were also given to members that excelled throughout the past year. Top fruit sales persons award were presented to Raymond Denniston – 3rd, Kaylee Wilcox - 2nd, Vance and Mara Wetzel - 1st.
Mr. Brian Pohlman then addressed the crowd and gave an appreciation to the Arcanum-Butler Local School and Miami Valley CTC Administration and Boards of Education. Mr. Pohlman gave a short presentation about the Ag/Multi-Purpose Building Project which included a video from Mr. Mark Poeschl, CEO of the National FFA and a 3D rendering of the new building. The Chapter Advisor then presented the top awards for the evening. First 3 members were recognized with the Leadership Award – Levi Walker, Raymond Denniston and Anna Loxley. The Leadership Awards were sponsored by Jason and Janelle Brinksneader. The top members in each grade were presented with the Outstanding Member Awards. Chapter Advisor Mr. Brian Pohlman talked about each member’s involvement and then presented him or her with a plaque commemorating his or her hard work. They were: Freshman-Austin Stephens – sponsored by Brad Wilcox-Brodbeck Seeds, Sophomore-Ethan Garbig – sponsored by Brad Wilcox-Brodbeck Seeds, Junior-Sidney McAllister sponsored by Brad Wilcox-Brodbeck Seeds, and Senior-Samantha McAllister sponsored by Brad Wilcox-Brodbeck Seeds.
The highest award for first-year members is the Star Greenhand, the awards were sponsored by John Landis-Pioneer and Keir and Diane Smith, and this year’s winners were Isaac Smith and Emily Wenning.
The Star Chapter Farmer award, sponsored by John Landis Farms, is given to the member that has excelled in an SAE that is related directly to the Farm, this year’s recipient was Zach Smith. The Star Chapter Ag Placement award, sponsored by John Landis Pioneer, is given to the member that works in a placement ag area, this year’s recipient was Jacob Osswald. The Star Chapter Ag Business Award, sponsored by John Landis Farms, is given to the member that works in an ag-related business, this year’s winner was Alex Less. The Ag Accomplishment Award is sponsored by James Brooks – Dynamic Land Application and is award to the member that has excelled in Ag and FFA.
This year’s Ag Accomplishment Award winner was Alex Weiss. Senior chapter Officers were recognized for their year of service. The officers were Hannah Rammel – Chaplin – plaque sponsored by Jason and Janelle Brinksneader, Cole Spitler – Sentinel – plaque sponsored by Jason and Janelle Brinksneader, Jacob Osswald – Treasurer – plaque sponsored by Jed and Penny Smith, Alexandria Less – Secretary – plaque sponsored by Jed and Penny Smith, Samantha McAllister – Vice-President – plaque sponsored by Jed and Penny Smith, Alex Weiss – President – Plaque sponsored by James Brooks-Dynamic Land Application.
The final awards of the night were the Honorary Chapter Degrees. This honor is bestowed on members of the school or community for their contributions to the success of the chapter. This year’s Honorary Chapter Degrees were presented to Mr. Ralph Brumbaugh and Mr. Jason Stephan.
The ceremony was concluded with the Inductions of the 2018-2019 Arcanum MVCTC Officer Team. President Sidney McAllister, Vice-President Zach Smith, Secretary Kaylee Wilcox, Treasurer Gracie Garno, Reporter Raymond Denniston, Sentinel Maggie Weiss, and Student Advisor Austin Stephens.
