On Saturday September 20, 2014, members of the Valley View - MVCTC FFA Chapter attended the 20th Annual State Greenhand Conference at Versailles High School. The conference is designed to help motivate and encourage first-year members to take advantage of opportunities. The theme for the conference was “First Down and Life to Go”.
The conference offered workshops to members to give them insight into what they will experience during their first year of FFA membership such as leadership opportunities in FFA, teamwork, goal setting, and communication. Another workshop focused on Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) exploration by Jason Wetzel, Western Region National FFA Vice President. Members also rotated through sessions to learn more about FFA contests, known as Career Development Events (CDEs), including Job Interview, Ag Communications, Public Speaking, Ag Sales, Ag Power Diagnostics, Rural and Urban Soils, Ag Issues, Wildlife Management, Food Science and Technology, Milk Quality and Products, Greenhand Quiz, Parliamentary Procedure, General Livestock, Dairy Judging, Equine Judging, and Poultry Judging.
Over 480 members from across the state of Ohio attended the event. Presenters of the conference also included State FFA President, Sydney Snider, and other state officers and district presidents. Chapter members that attended include Mike Boyle, Chris Boyle, Anna Warnick, Grace Sorrell, Peyton Henderson, Jacob Smith, and Josh Tays.
