21 members of the Miami East-MVCTC chapter were in attendance at the convention in Louisville, Ky. Those members included from Miami East-MVCTC FFA were Emily Beal, Rachael Hodge, Weston Hodge, Katie Bodenmiller, Casey Copeland, Madeline Davis, Lane Davis, Zac Gordon, Kelsey Kirchner, Emma Younce, Levi Reid, Cody Reid, Katie Bendickson, Hunter Sharp, Riann Kingrey, Nathan Teeters, Olivia Edgell, Kyle Persinger, Allyson Supinger, Lauren Williams, and Emily Johnson. Miami East traveled with the Milton-Union and Twin Valley South FFA members.
More than 61,000 members, parents, and guests were in attendance at the National FFA Convention. Previous conventions were held in Kansas City, Missouri and Indianapolis, Indiana. In 2016, the Convention will again return to Indianapolis, Indiana.
Convention activities included attending several convention sessions were members where inspired by motivational speakers such as the 2013-2014 National FFA Officers and motivational speaker and life-long quadriplegic Nick Vujicic. Members also listened to the United States Department of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack.
Attendees enjoyed attending the Easton Corbin and Justin Moore concert, Hypnotist Dr. Al Snyder, Buckeye Bash Dance, and Papa John’s Pizza Headquarters. Members also attended the FFA Shopping Mall and Career Show.
Two Miami East-MVCTC FFA members were recognized for being a National FFA Proficiency Finalist. Lauren Williams was a Top 4 in the nation in the area of Specialty Crop and Madeline Davis was a Top 4 in the nation in the area of Equine Management - Entrepreneurship. Both members were second in their area and earned an all-expense trip to Costa Rico in June of 2015. The students will visit farms and plantations with a trip coordinated by the National FFA Organization. This is the first time in Miami East Local School’s history that two students have been named National Proficiency Finalists.
Miami East-MVCTC FFA received a Three-Star National Chapter Award, the highest award bestowed to an FFA Chapter. The chapter was selected for this honor based on its activities during the previous school year, in the areas of student, chapter and community development.
The Miami East FFA Alumni Chapter was recognized by the National FFA Alumni for the $1,000 Local Program Success grant. The grant will be used to purchase curriculum for students on independent study.
Past Miami East High School graduate Emily Johnson received her American FFA Degrees. Emily and her family attended the convention to see her earn the degree. The American FFA Degree is the highest degree awarded by the National FFA Organization and recognizes members’ ability to demonstrate leadership abilities and outstanding achievements in agricultural business, production, processing, and service programs. Recipients received gold American FFA Degree key, wallet ID card, a certificate and wall frame to commemorate the achievement.

Other attendees included Miami East Schools Board of Education President and his wife, Mark and Margie Davis. Additional appreciation goes to the administration at Miami East Local Schools, Miami East FFA Alumni, and Miami Valley Career Technology Center for their continued support of the Agricultural Education Departments.
