In the Food Science and Technology Contest contestants included Emily Beal, Miranda Maggart, Olivia Edgell, Casey Copeland, Allie Patton, Hannah Wilson, Kelsey Kirchner, Hunter Sharp, Stephanie Millhouse, Allyson Supinger, Cody Reid, Grant Hodge, Nathan Teeters, and Daniel Everett.
Miami East students placed 1st out of 40 teams. The highest placing individuals from Miami East was Cody Reid, who second overall in the contest. There were more than 150 individuals in the contest. Cody Reid, Grant Hodge, Nathan Teeters, and Casey Copeland will now compete in the State Food Science and Technology contest in December.
During the contest the team members were asked to complete a product development scenario in which they calculated the nutritional facts for a new food product and design a new package. Also they completed an aroma identification section, took a written test, responded to a mock customer complaint letter, identified sanitation errors in the food industry, and completed a taste sensory test and flavor test.
