FFA sponsored a canned food drive for the entire Miami East High School. 600 canned food items were collected in November. The FFA also used funds from the Rural Youth Development through the National FFA Organization and United States Department of Agriculture to make the financial donation. The nationwide grant program provides funds to rural FFA chapters, in communities under 10,000, to support year-long, service-learning projects that address local needs. The Miami East-MVCTC FFA chapter was selected to participate in a special year-long Cohort focused on addressing hunger.
The Fletcher Food Pantry serves 10 to 15 families in the Village of Fletcher and Miami East School Community each month through food and household supplies. According to volunteer food pantry coordinators Jean Covault, Nola Herman, and Norma Yingst, “We appreciate groups that support the pantry each year.”
