Miami East-MVCTC FFA Fairs Well in Evaluations

The Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter recently competed in the District 5 Evaluations of the Ohio FFA Association at the Greene County Career Center in Xenia.  Several members of the chapter worked extra hard on their Supervised Agricultural Experience (SAE) record to prepare their applications for awards and degrees.

Three 2014-15 Chapter Officers that submitted books for review. Emily Beal submitted the Secretary’s Book and earned a gold rating . Kelsey Kirchner submitted the Treasurer’s Book and earned a gold rating. Casey Copeland submitted the Reporter’s Book and earned a gold rating. Emily, Kelsey, and Casey will be recognized at the State FFA Convention in May.

Seniors Riann Kingrey, Olivia Edgell, Miranda Maggart, and Allyson Supinger and Juniors Emily Beal, Stephanie Millhouse, Levi Reid, and Hunter Sharp applied for the State FFA Degree. All applications were reviewed and submitted to the state evaluation for further review.

Madeline Davis applied for the District 5 Star State in Agribusiness Award for her business enterprise. Her application will be reviewed in late February.

Graduates Kolin Bendickson and Daniel Bodenmiller applied for the American FFA Degree. Their applications were reviewed and submitted to the state further evaluation.

Several students applied for proficiency awards. These awards recognized outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience programs in their respected area of specialty. All applications were reviewed and advanced to state competition.

  • Emily Beal applied in the area of Goat Production. Emily raises and markets show goats for fellow junior fair exhibitors. She uses embryo transfer and marketing at regional sales.
  • Katie Bendickson applied in the area of Forestry Products for her business, Katie’s Christmas Cheer. Katie uses forestry products to make and market wreaths and sprays during the holiday seasons.
  • Madeline Davis applied in the area of Equine Management - Placement for her involvement in competition horse shows in the Interscholastic Equine Association.
  • Olivia Edgell applied in the Agricultural Research – Integrated Science for her research on hand washing using various types of hand soaps. She placed first.
  • Carly Gump applied in the area of Small Animal Care and Production. She raises and markets Great Pyrenees through social media.
  • Colin Gump applied in the area of Sheep Production. Colin has had job placement at Team Johnson Show Sheep and raised and showed market lambs at the local, state, and national level.
  • Kelsey Kirchner applied in the area Agricultural Sales – Entrepreneurship for her business, Kelsey’s K-9 Kookies. Kelsey markets her homemade dog treats at farmers markets and through social media.
  • Miranda Maggart applied in the area of Specialty Crop Production. She raised and marketed mums and pink pumpkins through exhibition at the Troy Farmers Market.
  • Nathan Teeters applied in the area of Agricultural Education for his involvement in the Grain Rescue Tube coordination and training for all Miami East Local School District’s Fire Departments.
  • Nathan Teeters also applied for the Emerging Agriculture Technology award for his job placement in research at Buckeye Ag Testing.
  • Hannah Wilson applied in the area of Specialty Crop Production for mum sales. Hannah utilized farmers markets to sell her fall mums.

Students will now await review at the state evaluation the end of February at the Ohio FFA Center. If selected as one of the top four in the state the student will be interviewed at the State FFA Convention in May.
