Miami East-MVCTC FFA State Evaluations Held
The State FFA Evaluations were recently held at the Ohio FFA Center in Columbus, Ohio. Several members of the Miami East-MVCTC FFA Chapter competed in various competitions. Members became eligible for State Evaluations by placing at District Evaluations in February.
American FFA Degree Kolin Bendickson and Daniel Bodenmiller, graduates of Miami East High School, submitted an application to receive the American FFA Degree. Their applications were approved and will be submitted to the National FFA Organization for review. They will receive their degree at the National FFA Convention in November in Louisville, Ky.
State FFA Degrees Juniors Emily Beal, Stephanie Millhouse, Levi Reid, and Hunter Sharp and Seniors Olivia Edgell, Riann Kingrey, Miranda Maggart, and Allyson Supinger submitted applications to receive the State FFA Degree. Their applications were approved, and they will receive their Degrees in May at the State FFA Convention in Columbus.
Star State FFA Degree Senior Madeline Davis is a Top 4 Star State Candidate in Agribusiness. She will be interviewed the end of March at her business, Madeline¹s Horse Back Lessons and Horse Camp, where she will share her skills in business with a committee of agriculture professionals. She will be recognized at the State FFA Convention in May.
Proficiency Awards Members applied for a district and state proficiency award. They were recognized for having an outstanding Supervised Agricultural Experience program in one of 50 areas. Seven members applied placed in the state and will receive an interview. They just received notice of interviews for being Top 4 in the State candidates. They will now prepare a display of their project, be interviewed by an industry panel of judges, and be recognized on stage at the State FFA Convention.
Kelsey Kirchner applied in the area of Agricultural Sales Entrepreneurship. Kelsey started her own business, Kelsey¹s K-9 Kookies, of making and marketing dog treats. She markets her treats through social media and at multiple farmers markets.
Olivia Edgell placed first in the district and Top 4 in the state in the area of Agriscience Research-Integrated Systems. She researched the best hand soap and water temperature to remove dirt from hands. She created a hypothesis and conducted her research before competing in the National Agriscience Fair and placing third in the nation.
Nathan Teeters placed in the Top 4 in the area of Emerging Agriculture Technology. Nathan has job placement at Buckeye Ag Testing where he is on the corn pollinating crew and helps complete research in crop production. He has worked over 200 hours.
Katie Bendickson placed in the Top 4 in the area of Forestry Management and Products for her business, Katie¹s Christmas Cheer. Katie made and sold Christmas wreaths and sprays to family and friends. She used a variety of forestry products to create appealing and fragrant displays.
In the competitive area of Goat Production, Emily Beal placed in the Top 4. Emily¹s business, Beal¹s Show Goats, consists of two donor does that area flushed and recipients carry the offspring. The kids produced are sold to fellow showman or retained in the herd. She has marketed the farm genetics through numerous regional sales.
Miranda Maggart district and Top 4 in the state in the area of Specialty Crop Production. Miranda raised and sold chrysanthemum flowers and pink pumpkins to family, friends, and at the Troy Farmers Market. Half of her pink pumpkin sales were donated to the Pink Pumpkin Foundation for breast cancer research.
Hannah Wilson also applied and placed in the Top 4 in Specialty Crop. Hannah raised 300 mums during her SAE. She purchased the pots and mum plugs in volume and marketed her mums through the Troy Farmers Market and to family and friends.
Other FFA members that applied for a proficiency awards but did not make the Top 4 in the state. They were recognized at the district level. Colin Gump placed first in the district in the area of Sheep Production. Madeline Davis placed second in the district in the area of Equine Placement. Nathan Teeters applied in the area of Agricultural Education and placed second. Carly Gump placed third in the area of Small Animal Production.
